Children's Book of the Year

The CBCA Children's Book of the Year winners have just been announced. See them listed below. We have all of these titles in the library. Borrow or reserve a copy now.
 
Older Readers Book of the Year 2013
  • Winner: Sea Hearts by Margo Lanagan
    • On remote Rollrock Island, the sea-witch Misskaella discovers she can draw a girl from the heart of a seal. So, for a price, any man might buy himself a bride; an irresistibly enchanting sea-wife. But what cost will be borne by the people of Rollrock - the men, the women, the children - once Misskaella sets her heart on doing such a thing.

Younger Readers Book of the Year 2013
  • Winner: The Children of the King by Sonya  Hartnett
    • Three children have been sent to live in the countryside, safe from the war in London. When they find two boys hiding in a castle, the past and future come together to make an extraordinary adventure.
  • Honour: Pennies for Hitler by Jackie French
  • Honour: The Tender Moments of Saffron by Glenda Millard with illustrations by Stephen Michael King

WORDS OUT WRITING COMPETITION

Words Out - children’s creative writing competition.

WIN AN IPAD!

The Gold Coast City Council is running the WORDS OUT writing competition for local kids under 17 years old. You can write a story or poem and be in the running to win an iPad.  
There are two categories: 11 years old and under; and 12 to 17 years old. The winner of each age category will receive a new iPad!
To enter, children should write an original story or poem of up to 1000 words inspired by the 2013 Children’s Book Week theme: 'Across the universe'.
Include your name, age and contact details with your typed entry and drop it off at a Gold Coast branch library, or email it to lcs@goldcoast.qld.gov.au by 5pm, Friday 11 October
